THE BOY FROM OZ
Civic Theatre Newcastle          Fri 6th August 2010 -- Sat 14th August 2010

Metropolitan Players Inc

Metropolitan Players Inc’s previous Civic Theatre production of The Producers received 12 CONDA nominations in eight categories and won six CONDA Awards from six of those categories, including Best Non-professional Musical and Director.

In 2010 Metropolitan Players will be back at the Civic Theatre with the fabulous musical The Boy From Oz.  This is the most successful Australian musical ever and the only one to be produced on Broadway and starred the wonderful Hugh Jackman.

The Boy From Oz is a musical biography/tribute to the late great Peter Allen.  Peter was born in the outback Australian town of Tenterfield in 1944 and made his entertainment debut at the age of 5.  He had an extraordinary life – at one stage he was married to Liza Minnelli, he won an Oscar and played sell out performances at Radio City Music Hall.

The Boy From Oz is a class above all other ‘jukebox’ musicals.  The late Nick Enright (originally from Maitland) skilfully weaved his plot around the life and complexities of Peter Allen.  It leaps, as does Peter himself, from past to present and back to past again all within the familiar context of one of Peter’s energy packed concerts.

With songs like I Go To Rio, I Still Call Australia Home, When Everything Old Is New Again, Tenterfield Saddler, I Honestly Love You and Quiet Please There’s A Lady On Stage it is a guaranteed hit.
